Episode Terrain: Graphic Design in Outdoor Audio Innovation
The Episode Terrain Landscape Speaker System represents a seamless blend of design and functionality, offering premium sound tailored for outdoor spaces. This system includes four 4" satellite speakers, stakes, and an 8" burial subwoofer, all designed to work with standard amplifiers. The design team sought to emphasize the terrain concept through distinct two-color packaging, which reflects the product's outdoor focus and new branding direction.
Design and Thought Process
The packaging design journey for the Episode Terrain system began with pattern explorations to represent terrain in a visually striking yet simplified way. Multiple iterations were created and tested to determine the most effective use of line, texture, and contrast, balancing aesthetics with production constraints for a two-color print job. The designs were also integrated with technical product drawings, which appear on the back of the packaging, to guide users on installation and highlight product details.
A significant aspect of the design process was ensuring a cohesive brand identity across the product line. The small and large speakers share design elements, reinforcing the family concept while enhancing the overall user experience. This alignment required collaboration with Product Marketing to perfect the messaging and Product Development to validate technical drawings and ensure accurate representation.
